Running your own business? Rule 1, always keep the energy level high
Well…maybe its not Rule #1 in the official rules of entrepreneurship, but it is really important not only for your team, but yourself. I know what you’re thinking… “tell me something I don’t know Edward”, but we’re all guilty of letting the initial flame that started the journey, to flicker from time to time.
I worked through this past weekend (like many weekends) which really took a toll on my energy level. I was able to make it to bloblive (www.bloblive.com) tonight in Santa Monica though. I try to go several times a month, but if too much time passes without that personal interaction with others as crazy as me, sometimes the flame starts to flicker.
What is interesting is that the event never fails to deliver the equivalent of someone pouring fuel to the fire. I guess you could equate it to nitrous in a car. Without getting into too much of the specifics of nitrous in a car, it is essentially nitrous oxide liquid stored in a tank that is wired to your engine (generally your intake manifold). You push a button when you want extra power and that sends the liquid from the tank towards your intake manifold (engine). The magic happens when the liquid hits the atmosphere (inside your engine), and it turns into a gas, dropping in temperature and making your engine have denser air molecules…thereby leading to a higher combustion (more horsepower).
That was a pretty car geeky way to explain it, but it works…
In any case, if you want that instant shot of energy and adrenaline related to what you’re doing with your business at any stage, then go out and hit a local meetup or mixer related to your field. Business ideas need you to go out there and create the opportunities, especially in these current economic conditions.
